Simon Lansberg-Rodriguez is a Venezuelan-American writer-director, composer-lyricist, and all-around human-hyphen hybrid. His screenplays include PLAYER VERSUS PLAYER, a globetrotting techno-thriller about a fully gamified U.S. military-industrial complex; GREAT WHITE TEEN, a teen conspiracy thriller about college sophomores on a superyacht joyride that descends into the parapolitical abyss; and SELTZER, a web series about two YouTubers trying to save their relationship after their channel receives a mysterious corporate sponsorship. Simon’s short films have been featured in multiple festivals, including NewFilmmakers NY, the Minneapolis Underground Film Festival, and the DIY Film Festival. After majoring in Cinema & Media Studies at Carleton College, Simon moved to Los Angeles to pursue screenwriting and, as luck would have it, fall in love with musical theatre. Simon is a graduate of the Musical Theatre Writing Program at NYU Tisch. For his master’s thesis, Simon collaborated with composer Caleb Conaway on a new musical about a group of teachers who form a union at their newly-chartered high school. Their work has been showcased at 54 Below and The Cutting Room. Simon’s additional ongoing projects include Hildegard and the Golden Record, a sci-fi musical written with Sophia Schott, as well as a musical about the first thirty years of post-war American intelligence. Simon has also worked as an escape room writer, editor, and creative consultant. He lives in Brooklyn with his partner Elise and their dog Cooper.
